Our Summary
About Us
THE HISTORY OF RAINBOW HILL HOUSE NURSERY:
Rainbow Hill House Childcare was created by husband and wife, Nej and Linda Jemal 22 years ago when they could not find the ‘home from home’ environment they were looking for, for their own children.
Rainbow Hill House started as a small childminding business in Linda and Nej’s own home but grew rapidly and in 2016 it was decided to move the setting into a larger premises in Bounds Green.
Since then, the nursery has proven to be very popular but continues to blossom and develop even further.
INSIDE OUR SETTING:
All of our rooms are filled with educational, fun and exciting resources for the children and we ensure all of our staff members are trained to a high standard to ensure quality teaching is provided on a daily basis. We require all of our staff to have an enhanced DBS, Level 3 Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding, Food and Hygiene, Female Genital Mutilation and The Prevent Duty qualifications and we regularly send practitioners on external courses and provide monthly internal courses to refresh and update their knowledge. Our staff make up a fantastic team, who are all extremely passionate about their roles and are dedicated to following our ‘home from home’ ethos in all aspects. Our manager and deputy manager are on site at all times to support room leaders and all other staff to ensure the smooth day to day running of the nursery.
The Jessie Room:
The Jessie room is where we care for the babies from 3 months to approximately 12 months old. The babies enjoy the spacious, warm and calming atmosphere with loving staff who are passionate about meeting the needs of each individual child. Our babies are provided with many different activities during the day and the staff support their learning by focusing and planning activities based around the three Prime Areas within the EYFS.
These are:
1) Personal, Social and Emotional Development
2) Communication and Language
3) Physical Development.
The Buzz Room:
The Buzz Room is allocated to our First Steps children (approximately 12 months to 24 months) who are able to explore the slightly larger room. As the children first begin to walk, it is important they have opportunity and room to explore. We follow the concept of free flow play, although there are a range of planned activities which are carried out throughout the day. The room gives the children opportunity to begin the next steps of their learning journey with support from members of staff, as well as the children's key person. During the majority of the day, the room is used as one large room. However, the room can also be split into two smaller rooms for when the children need to have a sleep.
The Woody Room:
The Woody Room is where our Toddlers are based. This is for children aged between 24 months to approximately 36 months. The children are able to explore the 7 areas of learning within this room as it is divided accordingly. The children are encouraged to discover, and explore their own interests. Practitioners will use the children's interests to plan and prepare various activities and opportunities to enable the children to continue their learning. In the Toddler Room, the children are encouraged to also learn and practice independence skills, such as, washing their hands and beginning to use the potty.
The Max Room:
The Max Room is on the First Floor in our nursery, and is slightly more structured than the other rooms. This room was created to ensure that the environment is a perfect balance between a 'home from home' nursery environment, and a reception class. The reason behind this is to ensure the children experience a smooth transition when moving to school. In this room, we s till ensure a 'free flow' way of learning is being practiced and the children have the freedom and choice to discover all areas and resources within the room. Educational activities are also planned to give the children opportunity to reach their full potential. In the Max Room, the children are encouraged to complete tasks independently in preparation for school.
Our Soft Play Area:
We are lucky to be one of the only nurseries in the country with our own soft play area! Our Soft Play area is used by all age groups within the nursery. The children use this soft play area particularly when the weather is either too hot or too cold outside. The different resources in this area enables the children to develop all areas of learning, not just physical development. For example, using the shape blocks is great for mathematical development, climbing is great for problem solving etc.
THE WAY WE WORK:
We take children on board from 3 months onwards and nurture them in a fun-filled learning environment where they are able to reach their full potential to gain the best possible start in life.
We put great emphasis on developing the children's confidence, self-esteem and independence from the beginning of the settling in period by ensuring the children feel safe and secure when attending nursery. We have an excellent and very effective key-person system in place which supports each child’s holistic development and enables children to explore their surroundings with confidence.
We believe that the views of the children are extremely important and therefore, one of the ways we respond to this is by putting great emphasis on following each individual child’s interests when planning or observing their development. Our theme of the week is also chosen by considering the interests of the children (as well as celebrations of various cultures) and each day at nursery, the children are given the opportunity to participate in various exciting activities.
We put great emphasis on the outdoors, learning about the world around us and our local community by taking the children on regular trips to a number of places such as the library, park, garden centre, local farms and woods using public transport.
At Rainbow Hill House Nursery we go beyond the EYFS curriculum by offering extra-curricular activities which vary from month to month and are delivered by suitable qualified professionals.. An example of some of our extra-curricular activities include; Spanish, Baby Ballet, Children’s Yoga and visits from companies who teach the children about animals, such as small mammals, reptiles etc.
We also regularly invite local community services, such as the police, ambulance service, dentists to visit the nursery and talk to the children about various subjects.
We are proud to be part of the ‘TFL Stars’ which is an accreditation scheme to encourage and inspire children and their parents to think differently about travel and its impact on their health, well-being and the environment.
We feel very strongly about working closely with parents and carers to benefit the child. We do this by sending out a monthly newsletter which contains any updates/news, advice on certain topics, highlights of the previous month and so on. We also use a password protected website called ‘fledglings’ which enables each child’s key person to take photographs of the child during the day and upload them to the website where parents and carers can gain access and regular updates. We hold regular parent mornings to enable parents and carers to have longer discussions with their child’s key person about their development. These meetings are great to address any concerns, queries or questions parents and carers may have.
Our last Ofsted inspection was in March 2018 when we received a ‘Good’ grading. Please see the Ofsted website for our full report.

What makes this place special is the staff - they are SO enthusiastic, fun and caring and they really LOVE the kids. Our daughter is 3 and loves coming here, she's made so many friends and has grown in confidence. There are so many activities arranged too, such as trips to the park or woods, a disco, animal handlers coming to visit etc.
We cannot recommend it enough.
